Social Surgery

Social surgery is a bit of a favorite experience when I’m in the city. It’s for those moments when you need a buzz but not too much. Given a tolerance close to nil, this one will set me up for the night. And by that, I mean it’s straight to dreamland. This is for the…

A dash of cognac

Early day, running around the city to take pictures and get some work done. Part of the reward is hoping into this nook of a coffee haunt. The white brew is memorable and something I always come back to. And, as often as I can, I add a dash of cognac. Just a hint.

Best cup of coffee.

What’s the best cup of coffee? It’s the brew you make with your eyes struggling to open / a waft of perfume guiding your toes between sleep and wakefulness / heavy clouds of sleep hide from the din The cup that makes you believe you’re a poet at such an ungodly hour.

Too sweet, after you

And to warn future goers, only take one at a time. A tripleshot Viennese coffee, panna cotta and chocolate bingsu don’t have to be consumed in one sitting! Stay alert! Be aware.

Cebu Design Week 2018

Cebu Design Week 2018, first of many. Was it my childhood wish to see Cebu Design Week happening? 90% MAYBE. Can I quantify the amount of caffeine consumed weeks into the hurricane? No. Nevertheless, it was a worthwhile birth-pain. And as I choose to be child-free, this is a worthwhile alternative. Happy first birthday, baby!

Hazelnut Latte fix from Bali

Some time March 2018, I was forced into time off. Have to say… was the most pleasant out of the office activity in a long time. Also, has anyone mentioned that the Hazelnut latte in Bali’s Bamboo Green School is out of this world? It’s not the sledgehammer-type street coffee you encounter in Phnom Penh or…

Coffee Hut after palm sugar cubes

Caffeine Fix: Davao

Little boy borrowed my camera while we sampled Bluegre’s Durian Coffee. Durian, on its own, is already one thick, creamy confection that catwalks perfection between bitterness and sugary heaven. Given you’ve been dealt premium grade stuff–getting one when it’s barely ripe or simply not the variety for you translates to disaster. Anyway, wasn’t this a post on coffee? Durian…

Temple raiding, caffeine break

What to do in Siem Reap? Lots of walking, running around and finding your way through life-sized Tetris blocks. Once in a while stop by a sidewalk stall and grab a sweet dumpling, which goes best with their sledgehammer-type coffee. Oh, you think dark coffee is your ally. But you merely adopted dark coffee; this brew…

Five.

Known for being picky with food, it’s not the taste that often encourages it. I don’t think my taste buds have that much range… It’s mostly the ingredients I’m keeping a keen eye on. “Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food.” ― Hippocrates Simply put, if a meal leaves me feeling lethargic, careening into…
